‘The Mirror’ follows a struggling actress who upon rediscovering an old audition tape suddenly realises who she must kill to reclaim her identity. The story is based on a poem Halleta Alemu wrote, which Elizabeth then helped flesh out visually. The film is very experimental and is a true exploration into the blending of narrative filmmaking and poetry. The film was made entirely virtually during the height of the pandemic in 2020. Only using an iPhone to shoot as Halleta lives Los Angeles and Elizabeth in London. ‘The Mirror’ premiered on Girls in Film in November 2021 and is still available on the platform to watch.
